Dedicated heart failure and transplant clinics for patient evaluation and postoperative follow-up are located at the Heart Center at Meadowmont and on the UNC Hospitals campus, both in Chapel Hill, where we provide a full range of transplant services:

  • Specialized operating rooms for cardiothoracic surgery
  • Adult, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care units with nurses specially trained in the care of transplant and VAD patients
  • Extensive post-transplant and post-VAD physical rehabilitation
  • Outpatient services for endomyocardial and transbronchial biopsies
  • Complete cardiac catheterization laboratories
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • State-of-the-art laboratories, including a tissue typing lab
  • Carolina Air Care, providing emergency helicopter and fixed-wing transportation
  • Assistance in locating affordable local accommodations through the SECU Family House and area hotels and apartment complexes

Heart & Vascular Care

The UNC Center for Heart & Vascular Care has an experienced multi-disciplinary team that collaborates to provide personal, patient-centered care. The transplant team includes heart failure cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, nurse coordinators, psychologists, a social worker, financial counselors, and other consultants as needed.
